A Behind-The-Scenes Documentary film on the "Mad Genius" of Conceptual Photographer & Filmmaker, Suzanne Heintz, independently produced by the British Doc Film Production Company, Fur Face Film. Distributed by Journeyman Pictures.
This film follows the unlikely but true story of photographer Suzanne Heintz, and an extraordinary act of defiance that catapults her life, and art, into the social media spotlight. She creates a mannequin family and embarks on a global crusade against societal pressure to conform, resulting in a raw, funny and intimate portrait of life through her lens. Part comedy, part drama, part real life – we witness it all.
When she didn’t find the perfect man with whom to build the perfect life, photographer Suzanne Heintz staged her own—with mannequins. Wielding the camera as a weapon against conformity and suffocating gender roles, Heintz used her outrageous self-portraits with metaphorical husband Chauncey, and daughter, Mary Margaret, to explode the myth of the idyllic all-American family. Raw and cheeky, Imitating Life: The Audacity of Suzanne Heintz, takes us into the irreverent, satirical and very funny mind of a unique and subversive artist.
